The world is getting worse (well, at least here in France). It used to be a pleasure to ride a motorcycle in France, and it still is, but the atmosphere created by the governing bodies is getting heavier and heavier.
The French Angry Biker Association (FFMC) is calling for a massive motorcycle protest in Paris on November the 5th. The reason is that the Paris City Hall are trying everything in their power to ban motorcycles from their city.
It used to be that a motorcycle could park anywhere on the sidewalk as long as the motorcycle was not hindering pedestrians. It was not a law, but it was tolerated (ie no fines).
The sidewalks in Paris are often large and wide, so this caused almost no problems with pedestrians. But since Paris got its Socialist Mayor, Bertrand Delanoe, things have gotten steadily worse.
Nowadays, parking wardens ticket motorcycles that park on the sidewalk ! Some have even been towed away !
There are some 100,000 motorcycle parking spaces needed in the city, but the Paris City Hall are only placing 1,000 per year. So by the time all the motorcycle parking spots have been created, the world will probably have run out of fuel and the terrorist will have exploded the earth!
So what this means, motorcycles will need to park in the legal spots on the street. Already there aren't enough spots for all the cars, so what do you think will happen when the 100,000's of motorcycle start taking up car spots ??
French car drivers aren't known for obeying parking rules and regulations, so they tend to park almost anywhere, blocking traffic and pedestrian crossings. Imagine the mess...
Or maybe that's the whole idea from the Marie de Paris.... force the cars out of the city. DIABOLIC !
NOTE: In all honesty, most underground parking garages are open and free to motorcycles. The rule of thumb is, if you can squeeze through the barriers with your motorcycle, it's free !
So, the FFMC, Paris chapter, are organizing on the 5th of November a massive protest ride. Starting at the Bastille (kind of symbolic if you know a thing or two about the French revolution), ride out starts at 14:00. The plan, as usual, is to paralyze Paris traffic by riding really slow.
If I were a car owner, I'd join the protest as well, since car drivers have as much to loose as we do !!!

On the other side of the world, in Toronto, Canada things are shaping up for motorcycle riders who want to park. The Toronto City Council have passed a motion that makes it free for motorcycles to park. They're not allowed to park on the sidewalks, but at least it's free.

Legal Motorcycle Parking
I just got a parking ticket here in Toronto where it is free to park in pay spots on the street. I parked on the sidewalk a mere 10 feet from other bikes on the sidewalk and i got a ticket and they didin't. What the f????? Let's all park in the pay spots and really put Toronto in a problem spot.
