UK Bike sales

And the UK is the only country with 4 out of 5 bikes being sportbikes. It's quite amazing really. We have awful condition, crowded roads, speed cameras everywhere and we choose to ride arse up, head down missiles at full pelt. It's no wonder so many of us end up in ditches or buried in the front of cars. :-(

Thank god for Charlie and Ewan, otherwise the Beemer wouldn't have made it on the list at all.

I could not find the article on the site but I think these figures would be even more interesting if you take the population of the country into consideration. It is obvious that with less population a country like Belgium would sell less bikes than Germany but I'd be intrested to see the figures by percentage of male population ??

Jerry, It's not on their site, just in their mag. The figures were just related to the numbers, not ration vs polulation.

I think I published something like that last year, but not so sure (I write too much)....

Not only are 80% of the UK bikes sportbikes, but 40% greater displacement (1000cc vs. mostly 600s on the continent) sportbikes. It seems that just shifting into 5th (or 6th) on one of these "arse up missiles" while on a small island would have one ending up wet more often than not.

PS. Why aren't the Italians buying more Ducatis? Do they know something the rest of us don't?

German Magazine "Motorrad" (05/2006) also had these stats. They also had other interesting stats, such as mc sales by (german) state (large differences), sales by hp rating (over 99hp class is almost as large as the others combined), type of bike by age groups (sport bikes are #1 in 18-29, nakeds at rest of the groups), development of the age structure of the byers today vs. 10 years ago etc. Might want to check it out.

Also interesting to note, that while the GSXR was the best selling bike in the UK, it still sold less there, than in Germany. UK market is more spread out?

Where is the Honda VFR on the charts? The latest news is that it will be discontinued after this coming year. I thought it was a strong seller in the UK and Europe.
